On May 14, 1977 one of baseballs best pitchers, Harry Leroy Halladay was born in Denver, Colorado. He got the nickname Roy from his middle name Leroy. When he was 5 he started playing little league, and if he wasn't playing little league he was outside with his friends playing baseball. But baseball wasn't the only sport he played basketball too. In middle school He played for his school team, thats when he started pitching. His coach thought he was the best pitcher he has ever seen! After middle school he went to Arvada West high school and played baseball and basketball too. When he atended Arvada West high school everybody wanted to be his friend because they knew he would play in the MLB. In high school he went to the the state finals for his baseball team 3 out of his 4 years in high school and in his league he was named MVP twice. After high school Roy went straight to the MLB, but his parents didnt want him going straight to the big leagues they wanted him to go to college, and have a career but Roy didnt listen to his parents he entered the 1995 draft and was picked 17th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Career
After signing with the Jays he was sent down to Dunedin FL the rookie team.On the rookie team he was there best pitcher, and since he was so good he had to move up a class to the Blue Jays higher class A team because he domanatedeverybody he pitched to. On the higher class A team he lead the minor league in wins wth 15, and that year he made Flordia state allstar game and was named the Toronto Blue Jays top Prostpect. After two seasons in single A he was promoted to Triple A. Roy halladay had a hard time at Triple A he had 0 wins and 5 losses. But the Blue jays thought he was ready to come to the majors. He was only 21 years old and the third youngest player to play for Blue Jays ever. He started off okay for a rookie In his first full season for the Blue Jays his record was 8 and 7 with a 3.59 era (earnd run average). And after his first season he became a full member of the starting rotation. But in his next season in 2000 he started to fall apart after 13 starts he was 4 and 7 with a 10.64 era and was sent down to the lowest class in the minor leagues. After two long and harsh seasons in cass A the Blue Jays thought he was ready to come back to the major leagues. In his first game back with the Blue Jays he had 10 strikeouts in 6 innings and the Blue Jays won the game. After being in class A he didnt look back from there he became the Blue Jays ace. In 2003 he had the most wins in baseball with 22, he led the AL in strikeouts, in innings pitched, in shutouts, and won the Al Cy young award. After that amazing season he was named the Blue Jays top pitcher. since 2003 he has led the Al in wins, inninings pitched and wins, but that wasnt enough for the bad Blue Jays team after 12 seasons with the Blue Jays they didnt make the playoffs once. Since Roy wanted to win not lose he asked to be traded and he gothis wishand was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. Roy liked that trade because the Phills were a great team so in the 2010 Roy hopes to make his first playoff aperance.
