Rett Syndrome is a neurodevelopment disorder. Rett Syndrome mostly affects females and does not occur on males as often as girls. Rett Syndrome is a rare disorder because of the quailty of females having Rett Syndrome instead of boys have Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is a disorder that starts developing at 6-18 months of age. Rett Syndrome is most often caused by mutation. Mutation occurs when a DNA gene is damaged or changed.In Rett Syndrome there are 4 stages. Stage 1 is called the early stage of developing into Rett Syndrome. Stage 2 is called the Rapid Destructive stage. The Rapid Destructive stage is the child loses purposeful hand skills and verbal skills. The movements in the hands wringing, or washing. Stage 2 usually starts between ages 1 and 4 and may last for weeks and months. Stage 3 is called the Pseudo-stationary stage. The Pseudo-stationary is apraxia, moto problems, and seizures are prominent, during stage 3 (Information from Wikipedia). In the Pseudo-stationary may show more interest in her surrpounding, he/she may imporve there rate with their communication. This stage can remain in many girls for most of their lives. Stages 4 is called the Late Motor Deterioration stage that can last for years or decades. Stage 4 prominent features include reduced mobiltiy, curvature of the spine and muscle weakness and lots more. Currently there is no cure. I underlined currently because I feel that someday there will be a cure for Rett Syndrome.
